What the role is

Innovation, Research & Development Division (IRD) - R&D and Innovation International Benchmarking Study

What you will be working on

This internship will offer you an opportunity to learn more about the research, innovation and enterprise ecosystem and strategies in Singapore; and in other countries and innovation hubs. Through this internship, you would gain an appreciation of Singapore’s key focus areas and policies in research, development and innovation to enable economic growth, including how Singapore could potentially work with international partners. The R&D and innovation international benchmarking study will consist of the following: • Researching and identifying countries and research institutes that have strengths in Singapore’s priority science and technology areas (e.g. semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, biotech/medtech). This could also include identifying potential ways that Singapore could collaborate with such international partners in the priority areas. Qualitative and quantitative research should be performed, including through publicly-available reports, databases, global rankings etc. • Benchmarking of Singapore’s innovation and enterprise policies and interventions against key global innovation hubs This would include a global landscape scan and analysis of initiatives and policies implemented globally on developing innovation in deep tech sectors. • To support the Innovation, Research and Development division in reviewing existing schemes and formulating policies in innovation and R&D, to drive greater economic impact for Singapore.

What we are looking for

• General interest in innovation and technology, including in global science and technology trends/developments; and in relation to emerging areas of technology. (Note: A Science & Technology background is not required) • Interest in global economic and geopolitical developments, would be a bonus. • Ability to conduct independent learning and research work • Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders • High initiative and resourcefulness in solving new problems
