United Stated Division (US) - Advancing the Singapore-US State Level Economic Engagement Strategy

What you will be working on

This project aims to advance Singapore’s engagement strategy to deepen and expand economic and trade relations with US states. As a key economic partner, substantive and structured engagement with the US is critical to advancing Singapore’s trade, investment, and economic interests. This strategy seeks to complement and enhance our current engagement approach with US federal government. As an intern under MTI’s United States Division, you will assist in researching and analysing information on the political, economic, and institutional landscape of US states to support strategic decision-making. The role involves conducting quantitative and qualitative research on economic and sector-specific data. This project will culminate in delivering practical policy recommendations to support MTI’s Singapore-US state-level engagement strategy. Scope • Conduct quantitative and qualitative assessment of key economic indicators, including sector-specific data, for relevant states. • Analyse the opportunities and challenges present in key sectors and industries, including conducting in-depth research on companies with existing presence and companies with potential commercial interest, in the relevant states. • Identify and conduct research on key personalities in each industry, including company executives, industry leaders, and other thought leaders, to understand their preoccupations, priorities, and potential areas for collaboration. • Assist in organising data, preparing documentation, and supporting engagement efforts. • Develop recommendations on both the holistic and state-specific engagement strategies, outlining the objectives, prioritisation framework, and modality of engagement to strengthen Singapore’s engagement with US states.

What we are looking for

• Background in international affairs, economics, public policy, or related fields • Strong research and analytical skills, with attention to detail • Familiarity with US political and economic landscape is preferred • Interest in trade policy and international economic relations • Excellent writing and communication skills • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and manage open-ended tasks
