Intern, Supporting Regulatory Policy Reviews for the Charity Sector

What the role is

At Charities Unit, our vision is to develop a well-governed and thriving charity sector with strong public support. We aim to facilitate self-regulation within the charity sector to maintain public confidence and support, while having sufficient consideration to the realities and differences charities and IPCs may face. Our Strategy • Ensuring regulatory compliance of charities and IPCs • Promoting good governance and best practices amongst charities and IPCs • Becoming a proactive and pre-emptive charity advisory Our Work • Undertaking enforcement action on errant charities • Conducting field visits to charities and IPCs • Providing secretariat support to the Charity Council to promote good governance and best practices in the charity sector • Developing and reviewing policies to develop the charity sector The intern will contribute to ongoing policy reviews relating to the charity sector and learn more about policy reviews and stakeholder engagement in the Public Sector.

What you will be working on

The intern’s responsibilities will include supporting: • The Charities Unit’s ongoing review of the Charities Act. The review aims to ensure that our regulatory framework remains relevant and forward-looking. Depending on the period of internship, the intern may be involved in research on regulatory practices in other jurisdictions/ sectors, and preparatory work to engage and consult stakeholders across the sector. • Reviews of other regulatory policies through research and engagement of stakeholders.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an intern who: • Is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task. • Has an interest in the charity sector and/or public sector work. • Possesses strong research, writing, and communication skills. • Is comfortable working with data and analysing information. • Is open to collaborating and engaging with multiple stakeholders and partners, either in-person or online.
