What the role is

Project title: Support for Training and Upskilling of Lower-Wage Workers The Workplace Policy and Strategy Division’s mission is to achieve “Thriving Workplaces that Promote Economic Growth and Safeguard our Social Compact”. The Inclusive Workplaces team develops policies and initiatives to foster progressive workplace practices and uplift lower wage workers. This internship project will focus on conducting a comprehensive landscape scan of international training support schemes designed to improve employment outcomes for lower-wage workers. You will research various programs, initiatives, and policies implemented globally, with an emphasis on identifying best practices that have proven effective in helping lower-wage workers secure better career progress pathways and higher wages.

What you will be working on

The intern will find and review case studies internationally, analyse the strategies used to encourage lower-wage workers to upskill, and propose policy interventions for Singapore. The recommendations will contribute to the design of effective policy interventions aimed at improving employment outcomes for lower-wage workers in Singapore. The intern may also be involved in ongoing tripartite negotiations on how best to support lower-wage workers to have better employment outcomes through increases in productivity and wages.

What we are looking for

Ability to read and write well, evaluate different policy approaches and articulate advantages/disadvantages, contextualise recommendations to Singapore
