ASEAN Division - Blocs Beyond Borders: The Next Bound of ASEAN Economic Cooperation

In today’s increasingly complex geoeconomic climate marked by strategic competition, supply chain fragmentation and accelerating digital transformation, ASEAN’s ability to act cohesively is more critical than ever. Beyond doubling down on cooperation with existing partners, ASEAN is also looking beyond to cooperate with new partners and blocs as part of its economic resilience strategy. How can ASEAN best capture these new economic opportunities, whilst maintaining its centrality? What role will Singapore play in this? The intern will support officers in developing Singapore and ASEAN’s strategy towards new priority partners. Through this project, the intern will have the opportunity to conduct a literature review and make recommendations on how best Singapore can play a role towards ASEAN’s external strategic positioning.

• Applicants should be in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies and have a strong interest in global trade, international relations, policy work and more importantly, ASEAN. • Applicants should be meticulous, and possess good research, critical thinking and writing skills. It will be a bonus if applicants are inquisitive and willing to undertake new technical disciplines/tasks on the job. • Prior internship experience in a related field is not necessary, but a plus.
