Technical Officer / Senior Technical Officer - Quarantine
What the role is
What you will be working on
You will be assisting with the daily operations of the Animal Quarantine Centre (AQC) to ensure that it runs smoothly. Duties include:
- Daily care of quarantined dogs and cats and upkeep of the kennels and catteries (e.g. feeding, walking of dogs for exercise and toileting, carrying out daily checks of quarantine danimals and report observations to veterinarians, etc.)
- Assist veterinarians in procedures involving handling of the quarantined animals (e.g. physical examination), administration of medications and emergencies)
- Veterinary nursing and biosurveillance sampling activities
- Engaging and attending to customers on queries relating to the facility and care of quarantine animals.
- Coordinate with contracted companies for maintenance of AQC to ensure works are delivered on time and of sufficient quality (e.g. cleaning, building maintenance pest control, etc.)
- Inventory and fixed assets management (e.g. ensuring adequate stocks of pet food, cat litter, vaccines, husbandry, veterinary equipment and preventative maintenance of assets etc)
- Other administrative duties such as record keeping for Quarantine Management System and preparation of quarantine certificates.
What we are looking for
- Areas of study in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Clinical Science or Veterinary Bioscience
- At least 1 year working experience involving animals
- Comfortable in handling dogs and cats
- Possess high quality customer service, professional communication skills and able to work in a fast paced environment
- Highly self motivated team player, energetic with positive personality
- Proficient in MS Office and willing to learn new system applications
- Required to work on weekends and public holidays based on roster
