Intern, ASEAN Engagements and International Relations, WPSD

Internship
Closing on 31 Jan 2026

What the role is

Project title: ASEAN Engagements and International Relations Internship The applicant will support two main workstreams: (i) regular ASEAN engagements; and (ii) ASEAN Chairmanship 2027 preparations, alongside support for incoming meetings and official visits. The applicant will support preparations for regular ASEAN engagements, which may be held overseas during or around the internship period. These include meetings such as the ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW), ASEAN Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM) and the ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting (ALMM). The applicant will assist with both substantive and logistical preparations for these meetings. Where appropriate, the applicant may have opportunities to interact with foreign counterparts on the ASEAN labour circuit, either in-person or virtually.

What you will be working on

For regular ASEAN engagements, the applicant will support end-to-end preparations for the meetings, potentially including meetings held overseas. The applicant will develop an understanding of ASEAN’s decision-making processes, policy coordination across ASEAN Member States, and the operational requirements of Ministerial and senior officials’ level engagements. The applicant will also gain exposure to regional discussions on key labour issues such as migrant worker protections, learn how international commitments are operationalised, and observe how national positions are coordinated and communicated in a multilateral setting. For preparations for ASEAN Chairmanship events in 2027, the applicant will support early-stage planning efforts. This will provide the applicant with hands-on exposure to how large-scale international meetings are conceptualised and planned, including approval processes and stakeholder management. For incoming meetings and official visits to Singapore, this will allow the applicant to develop practical skills in diplomatic protocol, briefing preparation, and engagement management, while gaining a broader understanding of how Singapore advances its labour and manpower interests through international engagements.

What we are looking for

Good communication and writing skills, sound stakeholder engagement, attention to detail under pressure.
