What the role is

NEA’s Waste Management Division (WMD) is responsible for the regulation of the waste management industry and implementation of key initiatives under the Zero Waste Master Plan, to achieve an efficient and sustainable waste-to-resource management system in Singapore.

The Waste Regulation Department (WRD) in WMD administers the Mandatory Waste Reporting scheme, the licensing of waste disposal facilities, mandatory provision of recycling receptacles in all condominiums and private apartments, and the mandatory requirements for food waste segregation and treatment by large food waste generators, to achieve an efficient and sustainable waste-to-resource management system in Singapore.

What you will be working on

You will work in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders to manage and undertake initiatives and projects to help Singapore achieve its recycling and waste reduction goals. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Review building plans submitted by Qualified Personnels (QPs) for compliance with COPEH Section 1.10 related to on-site food waste treatment systems

  • Conduct site inspections for issues related to the proper management of food waste

  • Supervise waste characterisation sampling works at the various Waste-to-Energy plants

  • Process applications for General Waste Disposal Facilities licences and submissions by relevant parties to ensure compliance with relevant regulations

  • Assist in the development and review of the regulatory framework for food waste management, including legislative framework, data collection and reporting system, and recycling requirements for recyclers

  • Manage food waste-related projects and pilots, including project design, execution, and stakeholder engagement

  • Organise and facilitate stakeholder discussions, engagements, and consultations

  • Handle public feedback and enquiries to ensure timely provision of information, clarification, or advice.

  • Any other tasks as assigned

What we are looking for

The job might be for you if you possess the following qualities,

  • Preferably 1 to 2 years of relevant working experience in waste management for industrial and/or commercial premises, or familiarity with enforcement regimes 

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint

  • Competent in data analytics and statistics assessment

  • Good interpersonal communication, writing and presentation skills

  • Meticulous with an eye for detail

  • Organised and able to multi-task

  • Outgoing and pleasant personality, independent and resourceful

  • Self-driven and always ready to strive for improvement

  • Able to work after-office hours and weekends, if required
