We are seeking an experienced and committed mental health professional to join the Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team in the Family Justice Courts. The role offers a unique opportunity to work within a court-based setting, providing specialized assessment, counselling, and case management services to families, children and vulnerable individuals.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting families through legal and psychosocial matters, with a strong focus on child welfare, family safety, and informed decision making.

What the role is
What you will be working on
As a Senior / Court Family Specialist, you will provide specialist services across a broad range of family related matters, including:
• Conduct child custody evaluations, children's interviews, and prepare comprehensive assessment reports for court proceedings
• Undertake risk screening, brief counselling, and case management for family violence, vulnerable adult, and child protection matters
• Facilitate family conferencing and assessments for care and protection, youth arrest, and family guidance cases
• Provide counselling and mediation services related to divorce, child custody, family violence, and emotional/psychological concerns
• Develop, coordinate and manage programmes and projects that support clinical and case work across divorce, custody, family violence, and vulnerable adult and child protection matters
• Manage substantial and complex caseloads within the court case management framework
• Liaise and consult with judicial officers, legal representatives, and other professionals to ensure coordinated case management

Successful candidates will be assigned to one of the following specialist tracks:
Position 1: Child custody evaluations, children’s interviews, court assessment reports and brief counselling services
Position 2: Risk screening, brief counselling and case management for family violence, vulnerable adults and child protection matters

What we are looking for
Essential Requirements
• Relevant professional qualification, preferably a Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work
• Eligibility for registration with a recognized social work or mental health professional association
• Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience working with couples, families, children, and/or youth
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with sound analytical and clinical judgement
• Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality court assessment reports
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
Note:
The successful candidate will be appointed on a one-year probationary contract in the first instance.
