Manager (Translation)

What you will be working on

• Lead and manage Tamil translation work to support Government communications, policies, and services, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency across platforms and audiences. • Provide subject-matter expertise in Tamil language use, including terminology development, style conventions, and quality assurance for translated materials. • Oversee translation workflows, including prioritisation, allocation of work, review processes, and delivery timelines, to meet operational and stakeholder requirements. • Work closely with policy officers, communications teams, and partner agencies to understand content intent and advise on effective multilingual communication strategies. • Review, edit, and quality-check translations produced in-house or by external vendors to ensure alignment with Government standards and audience needs. • Contribute to and manage translation-related projects, including but not limited to public engagement and outreach initiatives, cross-agency collaborations, training programmes, and industry or community partnerships. • Support the adoption and application of translation technologies, including AI-assisted translation tools, digital platforms, terminology databases, and content management systems, in line with organisational objectives. • Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives that enhance translation quality, accessibility, and operational efficiency.

What we are looking for

• A background in Tamil Studies, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, or a related discipline. • Strong command of Tamil and English, with proven experience in professional translation, editing, or language-related work. • Relevant work experience in translation, communications, media, or public-sector-related language work; experience in project management or supervision will be an advantage. • Demonstrated ability to work on translation-related projects, including engagement and outreach initiatives, technology-enabled solutions, or cross-functional collaborations. • Sound understanding of language nuances, register, and audience-appropriate communication, particularly in formal and public-facing contexts. • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under tight timelines, and coordinate across teams and stakeholders. • Strong analytical, writing, and editorial skills, with attention to detail and quality. • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external partners. • Interest in language policy, public communications, and innovation in translation and language services. • Familiarity with digital tools, AI-assisted translation, data-driven workflows, or content platforms will be an added advantage.
