What the role is

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) aspires to be a world-class organisation in delivering safety and security for our people. The job holder supports the Senior Asst Director (International Organisations & Security) in determining MHA’s safety and security interests in international conventions and resolutions and developing strategies for advocating the interests at key international platforms. The job holder will staff international conferences and meetings such as the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on Cybercrime. The job holder will also be expected to develop Singapore’s negotiation strategy and provide a critical analysis of key issues at these meetings. Where appropriate, the job holder will deliver interventions at international platforms.

What you will be working on

The job holder will monitor international developments and identify emerging issues and concerns impacting MHA’s policies and Singapore’s international standing. The job holder will coordinate MHA’s input on offensive interests in cybercrime and financial crime. The jobholder will be involved in negotiating and maintaining bilateral cooperation frameworks and instruments such as joint statements, declarations and memoranda of understanding to facilitate cooperation in cybercrime. Finally, the jobholder is also required to build and maintain strong professional networks within the ASEAN circuit and beyond as well as between domestic agencies to achieve desired outcomes. The job holder will provide guidance and support to junior members in his/her team. All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance. • Critical thinking and analysis skills • Able to both think strategically, and deep dive into content • Good communications and writing skills; independent and possesses strong team spirit • Good networking skills • Confident and accountable • A strong appreciation of MHA’s work in the safety and security domain • A strong interest in current affairs and international relations work • Possesses strong leadership qualities and is able to guide junior officers • Good appreciation of cultural, political, and religious sensitivities • Avid reader of international politics and development of different countries • Five years of work experience, preferably in international relations, policy, operations, or communications function • Knowledge of other languages would be of asset but not essential • Officer may be required to work beyond normal office hours.
