What the role is

The Human Factors & Simulations (HFS) Centre of Expertise at HTX focuses on enhancing Home Team operations through the application of human factors engineering, cognitive science, and simulation-based research. HFS works at the intersection of human performance, technology, and operational environments to optimise decision-making, teamwork, training effectiveness, and human–machine integration across the Home Team. The Senior/Scientist will support research initiatives within the Cognitive Science Cluster, focusing on team cognition and executive function. The role involves designing and conducting experimental studies, managing laboratory operations, and translating research findings into actionable insights to enhance Home Team performance and capabilities.

What you will be working on

The Scientist will be responsible for the following: • Conduct research in the areas of team cognition and executive function relevant to Home Team operational contexts • Design and develop laboratory paradigms and experimental tasks for cognitive and team-based studies • Develop and implement research protocols in accordance with ethical and regulatory standards • Collect behavioural and cognitive performance data from human subjects • Process, analyse, and interpret research data using appropriate statistical methods • Maintain accurate documentation and data records • Prepare research reports, presentations, and technical documentation • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders • Support the management and daily operations of the Cognitive Lab, including equipment upkeep and scheduling

What we are looking for

• Master's/ Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related disciplines • General understanding of the Home Team Singapore and its operational environment • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis methods • Experience conducting research involving human participants • Working knowledge of E-Prime or similar experimental software • Working knowledge of programming and analysis tools such as Python and/or R • Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative behavioural analyses • Experience with neuroimaging or physiological research methods, including fNIRS, is an added advantage. • Able to work independently while possessing strong cooperative skills with the ability to work effectively with others in teams. All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance.
