What the role is

This is a 2-year contract position as a Senior R&D Engineer/Scientist in the Centre for Environmental Sustainability.

We are seeking a forward-thinking professional to lead nanofiltration (NF) membrane development and applications. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that advance next-generation water and resource solutions.

What you will be working on

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Secure and lead consultancy projects and deliver solutions for novel membrane applications across industries.
Lead advanced R&D in NF membrane synthesis, including polymer formulation and dual-layer spinning for resource recovery.
Drive innovation to enhance membrane performance for diverse water treatment and resource recovery applications.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design and integrate NF membranes into scalable process systems.
Apply process engineering knowledge and oversee pilot system operations to validate membrane performance and scalability.
Engage in outreach activities to build partnerships and bring in new clients.
Mentor and inspire students, cultivating talent in applied research and sustainable technology development.

What we are looking for

At least an M.Eng/Ph.D in Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
5-10 years of working experience in membrane-related fields, of which 3–5 years must be in NF membrane development and scale-up for production.
Strong expertise in polymer chemistry, membrane fabrication techniques, and performance optimization.
Hands-on experience with process design and pilot system operation is a must.
A track record of driving innovation and delivering impactful R&D outcomes aligned with commercialization goals.
Passion for coaching and developing future talent in applied research.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
