What the role is

You will support the delivery of urban programmes and initiatives related to city development, public spaces and place-based work. The role provides exposure to research, coordination, documentation and engagement support within a government planning and design environment. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support programme implementation, events and knowledge-building efforts related to urban development and public realm initiatives. This is a 6-month GRIT@Gov Traineeship role.

What you will be working on

Key Responsibilities: • Support research on cities, urban initiatives, public space practices and relevant policy or programme references. • Assist in the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, reports and other programme-related documentation. • Support coordination of meetings, exchanges, events and engagements, including preparation of materials and follow-up actions. • Assist in managing information, records and reference materials for ongoing programmes. • Support engagement and communications materials related to urban programmes and public spaces. • Provide general administrative and coordination support to ensure smooth delivery of programme activities. • Undertake ad-hoc tasks to support the team’s work programme and timelines. What You Will Learn: • How urban programmes and public space initiatives are developed and managed within a government agency. • Exposure to research, programme coordination and stakeholder engagement in the urban development context. • Experience working across multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners. • Understanding of how policy, planning and design considerations come together in city-making efforts.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate who: • Is a fresh graduate from a recognised university, polytechnic or equivalent institution. • Has a background in urban studies, planning, public policy, geography, social sciences, communications, design, or related disciplines (architecture training is not required). • Demonstrates a strong interest in cities, public spaces and urban issues. • Is organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently. • Communicates clearly in writing and verbally. • Is comfortable with research, documentation and coordination work.

Eligibility for GRIT@Gov traineeship

The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector.

All trainees must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; and
  • Graduated or graduating in 2024 or 2025 from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and other Educational Institutions (e.g. private universities and overseas institutions); or
  • Graduated earlier from above institutions and completed National Service in 2024 or 2025.

Trainees who complete their studies from Universities, Polytechnics, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or other Educational Institutions within 2025 but who will only receive their qualification/certification award in 2026 are eligible for the programme as well.
