Deputy Director (Competition & Consumer Protection), Enterprise Development Div

As Deputy Director for Competition and Consumer Protection, you will lead the team that oversees Singapore’s competition and consumer protection policies in the Ministry, which aims to foster a fair and open environment in Singapore for businesses and consumers.

Your work will include: a. Reviewing competition and consumer protection policies, including proposed measures and legislative changes to address emerging trends and concerns; b. Working closely with the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCS) and Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) to review specific cases, including assessments of strategic mergers and business collaborations; c. Performing deskhead functions for CCS and CASE, including strategic reviews and driving organisational change; d. Working with industry stakeholders to co-develop guidelines to raise business standards, in diverse sectors such as e-commerce, entertainment and retail; e. Working with other MTI divisions, economic and regulatory agencies to address cross-cutting issues, such as cost-of-living and how competition can support economic/ industry development objectives; and f. Advancing Singapore’s interests on competition and consumer protection matters at international and regional platforms.

• At least 6-8 years of working experience. • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate opposing interests, and collaborate with businesses, private sector bodies, and public sector agencies. • Deep critical thinking skills and the ability to develop well-considered solutions. • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
