What the role is

The DevOps and Test Automation Engineer drives automation, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), and environment reliability for MAS systems, including critical information infrastructure test automation, secure engineering practices, and continuous delivery to support stable, resilient, and compliant applications.

What you will be working on

  • Design, build, and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Nexus, NexusIQ, and SonarQube for build, test, and deployment automation

  • Manage environment configuration, secure access control, and deployment readiness

  • Automate operational tasks including build scripting, deployment workflows, artifact packaging, and environment provisioning

  • Troubleshoot and optimise pipeline performance, stability, and observability

  • Partner with Infrastructure, Operations, and Security teams to maintain hardened, compliant environments for CII systems

  • Develop and maintain automated tests for CII-related applications, processes, and system behaviours

  • Automate scenarios including API interactions, high-availability flows, transaction validation, data validation, batch processing, and system failover behaviour

  • Build regression, functional, and end-to-end automated test suites aligned to CII resiliency and compliance requirements

  • Integrate CII-related automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous quality gates

  • Maintain test data frameworks, reusable automation modules, environment configurations, and robust execution artefacts

  • Create reusable script libraries, validation logic, and data-driven testing utilities

  • Analyse failures, identify root causes, and improve automation architecture and system testability

  • Work with Developers, Business Analysts, and Quality Engineers to refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and test coverage plans

  • Promote shift-left testing including static analysis, automated quality gates, and early test integration

  • Advise teams on system testability, environment dependencies, and best practices for reliability in CII contexts

  • Identify gaps in reliability, coverage, and operational readiness and drive structural improvements

  • Maintain runbooks, CI/CD documentation, test execution guides, and operational procedures

What we are looking for

  • Strong hands-on experience with DevOps toolchains: GitLab CI/CD, Nexus Repositories, NexusIQ, SonarQube

  • Experience building automated tests for APIs, batch workflows, file processing, and integrated systems

  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, Shell, PowerShell)

  • Experience with secure networks, Linux/Windows environments, and GDC/GCC/GCC+ infrastructure

  • Experience with message-based systems (IBM MQ), containers (Docker, Podman, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform), or infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible)

  • Familiarity with CII-related system characteristics (resiliency, redundancy, compliance controls) is a strong advantage

  • Understanding of CI/CD architecture, branching strategies, and automated deployments

  • Ability to implement automated quality gates and integrate test suites into pipelines

  • Familiarity with logs, metrics, and observability frameworks (SLO/SLA concepts)

  • Strong grounding in test design, regression strategy, coverage planning, and data-driven testing

  • Ability to design automated tests covering high availability and system critical workflows

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities across pipelines, test automation, and environments

  • Proactive in identifying systemic issues and implementing improvements

  • Able to work closely with Developers, Operations, Infrastructure and Security teams

  • Clear communicator able to explain risks, automation outcomes, and improvement recommendations
