What the role is

You will be part of the Finance Data & Analytics (FDA) directorate, that oversees the finance data and analytics strategy to support the government’s finance and internal audit community in better decision making. You contribute towards leading advanced analytics and AI initiatives that enhance fraud detection, identify anomalies, and support decision-making across government Finance and Internal Audit teams. You will help to establish AGD's data science best practices, drive strategic analytical projects, and develop team capabilities to enable data-driven decisions that strengthen finance stewardship and governance and contribute to public sector finance transformation.

What you will be working on

You will support the team on: i. Solution Design & Requirements Gathering • Leading the identification of high-impact analytical opportunities within government finance and internal audit processes, conduct user journey studies and translate business requirements into comprehensive technical specifications and success metrics. Leading proof-of-concept development and guide transition to production-ready applications ii. Full stack AI/ML Pipeline Development and Deployment • Designing, building, and deploying of complete AI/ML pipelines; develop analytical models, supporting APIs, and user interfaces; implement AI/ML Ops practices and deploy solutions to government cloud infrastructure iii. Platform Integration • Building of scalable Python and SQL workflows leveraging government central platforms and shared infrastructure, create robust data transformations and quality validation processes for analytical datasets and integrate solutions with existing government finance systems and business intelligence platforms iv. Technical leadership • Conducting technical reviews and quality assessments of vendor solutions, including code review of SQL queries, data models, and analytical algorithms, establish technical standards and ensure enterprise architecture alignment v. Stakeholder Engagement • Partnering with finance officers and internal auditors across agencies to drive analytical adoption, and present findings tailored to diverse audiences vi. Team Development • Mentoring of 1-2 junior data scientists on technical skills, project management, and stakeholder communication, creating a safe environment for learning and growth vii. Knowledge sharing & Capability building • Conducting training sessions and establish documentation practices to support organizational capability building

What we are looking for

Functional/Technical Competencies • Tertiary or professional qualifications in AI, Data Science, Applied Computing, Information Systems, Analytics or a related field • Minimum 9 years’ experience with at least 3 years in data analytics, data science, machine-learning operations or related field with demonstrated end-to-end project delivery • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and statistical analysis tools with production deployment experience • Strong expertise in full-stack AI/ML development including model development, API design, and cloud infrastructure deployment • Experience with AI/ML Ops practices, model monitoring, and production system maintenance in enterprise environments • Proven ability to conduct requirements engineering and translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions • Experience deploying models to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, etc) with understanding of governance, security, and audit compliance requirements • Familiarity with government technology standards and experience integrating solutions with enterprise systems and business intelligence platforms • Understanding of data governance, privacy, and security principles in government contexts Generic Competencies • Ability to identify high-impact analytical opportunities and drive organizational transformation while making sound judgements about policy options and technical approaches • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills for engaging senior leaders and presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences • Experience mentoring junior staff and establishing technical best practices, with ability to treat staff with care and respect while helping them develop their careers • Cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to orchestrate resources, monitor team progress, and take responsibility for collective performance while adapting to changing requirements • Self-motivated to stay current with industry best practices, creating environments for constructive challenge of status quo while managing risks and resources effectively You will be notified whether you have been shortlisted within 4 weeks from the closing date of this job posting.
