What the role is

The ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute is a leading research centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic environment.

Applications are invited for the following position:

Intern (Information Technology)

What you will be working on

ISEAS IT serves the Institute through providing effective and timely IT services and support.  In this main role, the team provides helpdesk and technical support to all staff and researchers on desktop computers, devices, software, email, websites, and network/wireless connectivity.

On a daily basis, the team maintains the network infrastructure, wide area connections, as well as backend infrastructure (which includes various servers, systems, and server-side applications). 

In other functions, the IT Division develops and maintains IT policies (in compliance with IM8), educate end-users in IT security and desktop applications, as well as assist to administer the door access system and readers.  Managing the IT recurrent funds for the entire organisation, IT also procures IT-related equipment and systems to support the operations and production work of other divisions/departments.

The team is constantly on the lookout for any existing or emerging technologies to further improve IT services and support, or to enhance user experiences and productivity.  The team also strives to improve IT security awareness of staff through better communication and information dissemination.

Responsibilities

Procurement & Contract Management (70%)

  • Assist in the drafting of IT procurement documents, ensuring compliance with Procurement and Government ICT policies for the Information Technology Division (ITD).

  • Assist with ICT contract management, including tracking renewals, maintaining records, and liaising with vendors.

  • Support in obtaining relevant documents for IT reviews and approvals.

  • Provide administrative support in procurement processes and documentation.

Data Management & Governance (30%)

  • Assist in documenting and refining processes related to stages in the Data Lifecycle.

  • Support execution of tasks on AI governance and Personal Data Protection Impact Assessment (PDPIA), in consultation with system owners.

  • Participate in experimentation and testing of data/AI tools suitable for the ISEAS environment.

  • Assist in scheduling and coordination for the Data Analytics Group (DAG).

  • Undertake other ad hoc data-related tasks as required.

What we are looking for

Requirements

  • Proactive and able to take initiative in completing tasks.

  • Interested in administrative work related to IT procurement and data support.

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); basic knowledge of data organisation and reporting.

  • Familiar with Power BI or willing to learn for data visualisation tasks.

  • Some exposure to data or AI-related projects (e.g., coursework, school projects, or personal exploration) will be an advantage.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • At least a Higher Nitec or Diploma in Business Administration, IT, Data Analytics, or a related field.

Internship Period: May 2026 – Aug 2026
