Deputy Director (Analytics)
What the role is
What you will be working on
Team Leadership & Management
- You will be leading and managing a team of analysts - handling resource allocation, monitoring their work quality and deliverables, and supporting their career development whilst maintaining professional standards.
Technical Oversight
- You will provide technical advice and guidance on end-to-end analytics projects that involve data acquisition, processing, integration, analyses, visualisation and reporting to create a more comprehensive analytical picture. You will also pave way for the team to be future-ready, growing their analytical capabilities.
Data Quality & Methodology
- You will develop protocols for data collection and annotation processes, ensuring that both quantitative and qualitative sentiment analyses are built on high-quality data foundations.
Strategic Systems & Processes
- You will implement workflows to monitor the external environment and identify emerging issues or public concerns early. This includes overseeing the development of data pipelines from multiple sources whilst personally building and validating critical pipeline components, especially for new data sources or complex integration challenges.
- You will directly conduct triangulation analyses by working with datasets to ensure findings are robust and valid for evidence-based policy communications.
Advanced analytical methods
- You will guide the team in employing sophisticated algorithms, statistical models, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to identify patterns, correlations, and trends that might not be visible through traditional analysis, whilst directly developing and testing new models for complex analytical challenges.
Visualisation and presentation
- You will actively lead efforts to create charts, graphs, dashboards, and interactive displays using appropriate software to make complex data more understandable and actionable.
Technology & Automation
- You will lead efforts to automate repetitive analytical tasks, develop data visualisations (such as dashboards), and oversee the implementation of technological solutions that enable timely sentiment understanding or track sentiments over time to inform policies, communications, and public engagement strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement
- You will guide the team to work closely with policy teams and stakeholders to effectively communicate analytical findings and insights. This includes presenting complex data analysis in clear, accessible formats and supporting data-driven discussions to inform decision-making processes.
What we are looking for
At least 10 years of relevant experience in data analytics or related fields involving data science, statistical analysis and data interpretation.
Additional experiences valued:
- Leading a team in delivering data science projects (using Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning Models) and data visualisation products (using Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, or similar).
- Proficiency in coding tools (such as Python) and statistical analysis.
- Leading and managing cross-functional teams.
- Conducting data analysis independently.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources into clear insights.
- Strong writing, editing and proof-reading skills with the ability to communicate complex findings to diverse audiences.
