[NCCS]Internship for Climate Change and Sustainability Science&Technology Office

Internship
Closing on 10 Mar 2026

What the role is

The Science & Technology Office at the National Climate Change Secretariat scans for promising climate technologies that can help Singapore achieve its decarbonisation and climate adaptation goals. This internship will give you a sense of how nascent climate technologies are scouted and shaped for real world deployment, and how we help make policies and broader system planning aligned with the latest technologies.

What you will be working on

Project 1: Climate Technology Scouting and Assessment • Scan global news, reports and databases to identify emerging climate technologies across sectors (e.g., power, industry, carbon dioxide removal), and synthesise key trends, gaps and leading approaches. • Assess selected technologies for their underlying principles, Technology Readiness Levels, potential climate impact, deployment conditions, and key risks or constraints in Singapore’s context. • Develop concise briefing notes and slides that translate technical findings into clear insights for policymakers, including comparisons between different technological approaches to the same challenge. Project 2: Data Analytics for Technology Intelligence • Explore and analyse data from the European Patent Office’s Technology Intelligence Platform (and related sources) to identify patterns and trends in climate relevant technologies and innovation activity. • Build and refine data pipelines, queries and scripts (e.g. in Python, R or SQL) to extract, clean and structure patent data for further analysis and visualisation. • Generate short write ups that highlight emerging technology clusters, key innovators and areas of opportunity relevant to Singapore’s climate strategies.

What we are looking for

1. Research, analysis and critical thinking • Use gen AI and authoritative information sources to support structured desk research. • Develop skills in assessing the relevance, risks and potential impact of emerging climate technologies for Singapore. 2. Data and technical skills • Build hands on experience with basic data analysis and scripting tools (e.g. Python, R or SQL), with gen AI support for code generation and exploration. • Learn to handle large datasets, simple statistics and visualisation tools to identify trends in technology and patent data. 3. Communication and collaboration • Strengthen written and verbal communication by turning research into clear briefs and slides for policymakers. • Work closely with a small team, seeking feedback, learning new tools and deepening your interest in climate technologies and policy. Mode of internship: Hybrid (i.e. Mix of in-person and virtual) Duration: 12 weeks
