What the role is

As a custodian of Singapore’s heritage and responsible for telling the Singapore story, sharing the Singaporean experience, and imparting our Singapore spirit, the National Heritage Board manages and operates national museums and heritage institutions. Museums Planning oversees policy development and strategic planning for the Museums Cluster. The team works closely with external and internal stakeholders to develop policies to further Singapore’s museum sector, as well as review processes and guidelines in the day-to-day management of our museums and heritage institutions.

What you will be working on

We are looking for an officer to oversee planning and policy development to further Singapore’s museum sector, as well as promotion of the Design Collection Singapore. The officer will:

  • Engage industry practitioners and stakeholders on museum-related matters and sector development;

  • Work with government agencies and external stakeholders on matters related to museum development in Singapore;

  • Review and formulate policies, processes and guidelines in the day-to-day management of our museums and heritage institutions; and

  • Develop initiatives to promote greater appreciation and awareness of the Design Collection Singapore.

What we are looking for

  • Strong interest in the museum and culture sector;

  • Preferably at least 5 years of relevant working experience, in the culture and heritage sector or related sectors such as policy and planning;

  • Proactive and independent worker who is comfortable with ambiguity and open to learn new skills;

  • Resourceful and innovative individual willing to take risks and explore new ideas;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Effective, organised and highly motivated with the ability to work well in a team;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact with and manage diverse stakeholders and partners; and,

  • Possess strong organisation and time management skills and be versatile at adapting to varying needs of the projects.

Key Functional Competencies

  • Policy and Planning: Ability to understand and balance sector priorities, stakeholder interests, trends and trade-offs, and apply museum sector knowledge and insights to inform policy development

  • Management and Implementation: Ability to implement and operationalise workstreams in collaboration with government agencies and partners.
