What you will be working on
Your responsibilities include:
a) interviewing legal aid applicants on the legal issues facing them;
b) recording statements from applicants, extracting relevant information and facts, and referring them to social service help, if necessary; and
c) assisting in administrative tasks of the Bureau’s Legal Support Unit, including managing duty rosters of the Legal Officers and Legal Executives, liaising with external organisations (e.g. Housing Development Board), and handling correspondence with the Court and other external parties.
You will also assist with litigation support work, such as the preparation of court papers, on an ad hoc basis where required.
Working hours:
Part-time: On-site every Monday to Friday morning from 8.30am to 1.00pm.
What we are looking for
Key Competencies Required:
• [Client Interview skills] Ability to conduct structured interviews with applicants, identify and extract relevant facts, and record statements clearly and accurately
• [Client Management skills] Ability to listen actively and empathetically while maintaining professional boundaries
• [Administrative skills] Attention to detail and ability to manage administrative tasks efficiently
• [Litigation Support]: Prepare high quality and accurate court papers to be submitted to the Court within the required timeline
• [Preferred] Interest and experience in family law
To be successful in this role, you must have:
• Strong writing skills, prior experience in investigative work, report writing and legal drafting will be an advantage
• Ability to communicate and collaborate well with stakeholders
• Good customer service skills
• As the role requires the incumbent to converse and take instructions from Mandarin-speaking applicants, candidates will need to speak and read Mandarin with reasonable fluency. Candidates who speak a dialect in addition to Mandarin will be an advantage.
Successful candidates will be appointed on a 1-year contract in the first instance. Any extension of the contract will be subject to job performance and/or manpower needs.
