What the role is

Purpose of Job

The mission of SFA is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

The officer will be responsible for:
• Accreditation of overseas sources, to support diversification of import sources while ensuring food safety.

•Advancing SFA’s efforts in market access requests, to support industry’s interests in exports.

What you will be working on

Scope / Duties
• Act as the liaison with foreign country authorities to:

assess and progress applications by overseas farms/establishments to export food to Singapore.
coordinate and conduct overseas inspection trips, follow up on inspection findings and put up recommendations to management for approvals of country/establishment(s).
establish protocols to export food from Singapore, viz equivalence, mutual recognition.
provide assurance on Singapore’s food safety system to support exports, including for specific food safety alerts/recalls/incidences.
negotiate certifications for consignments exported from/imported into Singapore.

•Coordinate across Divisions for audit/site inspections by foreign country auditors on Singapore companies who are exporting/intend to export.

•Conduct audit inspections of overseas farms and establishments.

What we are looking for

Qualifications/ Experience/ Skillsets/ Other Requirements

•Degree in Food Science, Veterinary Science or other relevant disciplines.
•Knowledge in food safety management systems, food production systems and relevant experience in agriculture, food industry audit.
•Good interpersonal and communication skills to represent SFA and Singapore internationally.
•Meticulous and able to work independently.
•Ability to work with database and data analysis tools e.g. MS Access, PowerBI.

About Singapore Food Agency

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is a new Statutory Board formed under the ‘Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) to oversee food safety and security. The SFA will serve as the single point of contact for public feedback on food-related issues, and strengthen management of foodborne disease outbreaks to protect public health. The SFA will also facilitate more business-friendly regulations with oversight of all food safety policies and consolidation of food laboratory capabilities to deepen competencies in food diagnostics, and research and development in food safety.
