What the role is
What you will be working on
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Project Management :
manage design projects from concept through to completion, ensuring high-quality outcomes and adherence to deadlines.
Collaborate with students, faculty, and researchers to understand their needs and translate them into effective design solutions.
Design & Development:
Create detailed design plans, sketches, prototypes, and final products using a range of tools and technologies, including CAD software, 3D printing, and traditional craftsmanship.
Stay current with emerging design trends, materials, and technologies, incorporating them into projects as appropriate.
Innovation & Strategy:
Drive innovation by exploring new design methodologies, tools, and processes that enhance the Makerspace’s offerings.
Develop and implement design strategies that align with the Institute's goals and objectives.
Collaboration & Communication:
Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Present design concepts and project updates to diverse audiences, including students, faculty, and Institute leadership.
Facilities & Resources Management:
Manage the maintenance and optimal use of design equipment and tools within the Makerspace.
Ensure that resources are used efficiently and that safety protocols are followed.
Community Engagement:
Lead workshops, seminars, and other events to promote design thinking and engage the NP community.
Act as a liaison between the Makerspace and external partners, including industry professionals and local organizations.
What we are looking for
At least 3 years of relevant experience, with a good knowledge of physical science, design or its equivalent are preferred.
Should have knowledge/skills in mechanics and electronics e.g., handling mechanical workbench tools, 3D printing, laser cutting, craftsmanship preferably with some experience with prototyping and trouble shooting.
Must possess teaching or coaching experience, good decision making and communication skills. In addition, he/she must be adaptable, detail-oriented and a team player.
Additional pre-requisites that are advantageous
Knowledge of concepts in science/technology (mainly physical / mechanical / electrical) and the ability to apply such knowledge in practical, engineering-type work is a plus.
Those with computer literacy in programming or CAD and knowledge of safe lab management practices will have an added advantage.
