What the role is

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive programmes and partnership with the veterinary and animal-related industries. AVS is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. AVS also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a society where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in our City in Nature.

What you will be working on

[What the role is]

The Veterinary Science Programmes team under the Community Animal Management Division of AVS develops animal management policies and programmes, conducts research to guide policy-making and operations, and engages stakeholders on these policies. For this role, you will assist in field work and data analysis for population and ecology studies on community animals.

[What you will be working on]


•    Conduct fieldwork to collect population and demographic data on free-roaming dog and cat populations through population surveys.
•    Assist in pilot field acceptance trials of oral baits on free-roaming dogs 
•    Utilise relevant data analysis tools to analyse, map, and effectively communicate collected data with key stakeholders.
•    Work closely in a small research team to carry out other research tasks related to community animals.
•    Carry out administrative processes including verification of documents, procurement, assist with event logistics, and other duties as required to ensure daily function of the branch.
 

What we are looking for

•    Area of studies in n Life Sciences, Environmental Studies/Science, Veterinary Technology or a related field
•    Candidates with a Class 3/3A driving licence and ability to cycle will be an advantage, as the survey locations are not easily accessible and usually done outside of normal working hours.
•    Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
•    Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining data integrity and accuracy
•    Research experience in GIS or population modelling using data analysis tools such as R, Python, GIS, and other relevant software is highly desirable
•    Proficient in data visualisation tools and ability to present findings through comprehensive graphs and reports
•    Able to conduct surveys and fieldwork during non-standard working hours, including evening and night-time periods as dictated by research protocols

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Successful candidates will be offered a 11-month employment contract.
