Lead/ Engineer (Sensing Apps), Threat Scanning Tech & Analytics, CBRNE

Permanent/Contract
Closing on 01 May 2026

What the role is

HTX is the first Science and Technology Agency of its kind in the world, bringing together science and engineering capabilities across the Home Team Departments to transform Singapore's homeland security landscape. We are a statutory board under the Ministry of Home Affairs, dedicated to developing cutting-edge technologies that empower our Home Team to solve crimes, save lives, secure borders, and safeguard public spaces. As an Engineer / Lead Engineer (Sensing Applications) within the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Centre of Excellence, you will drive physics-based novel multimodal threat sensing technologies whilst managing stakeholder relationships and research collaborations. Your work will involve applying physics-based sensing principles to create innovative sensing approaches for detecting, identifying, and quantifying CBRNE threats. The role demands deep physics expertise and practical engineering capabilities to translate theoretical concepts into deployable solutions, strong project management skills to coordinate diverse stakeholders, and the ability to evaluate commercial sensing technologies for operational deployment. You will drive the development of new sensing capabilities that surpass current state-of-the-art systems for Singapore's homeland security applications.

What you will be working on

The scope of work includes the following: • Technology Scouting: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews, patent searches, and technology surveys to identify emerging detector technologies and commercial products capable of detecting and mitigating CBRNE threats. • Quick Proof-of-concept Trials: Conduct tests on prototypes and products to identify superior technologies or products that can bring about operational enhancements. • Technology Development & Project Management: Lead and manage multiple concurrent research and development projects, managing timelines, resources, and deliverables whilst ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and stakeholder requirements • Procurement & Budget Management: Work as a team in securing project funding, managing procurement processes, and implementing technology acquisition strategies for CBRNE detection capabilities

What we are looking for

• PhD / Masters / Bachelor's Degree in Science or Engineering with demonstrated strength in Applied Physics, Physical Sciences, or related disciplines • Knowledge of sensing technologies, signal processing, and materials science and their applications for enhancing border and aviation security through more effective and efficient people, conveyance and cargo screening processes. • Strong written communication skills and proficiency with modern productivity tools • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers • Willingness to participate in field studies and trials involving CBRNE threat detection (including simulant testing) • Independent, resourceful team player with excellent communication and critical thinking abilities • Experience managing collaborative projects with industry partners • Experience in coding and the use of artificial intelligence/machine learning to enhance relevant work processes is an edge. Competencies expected: • Scientific Rigour: Ability to design robust experiments and trials, validate solutions against experimental data, and critically evaluate scientific literature. • Project Leadership: Excellent coordination skills with proven ability to manage concurrent research programmes and stakeholder relationships • Analytical Excellence: Strong problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to technical detail and systematic approach to complex challenges • Technical Communication: Skill in translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both specialist and non-specialist audiences • Collaborative Leadership: Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including chemists, engineers, and operational personnel whilst driving project outcomes * All new hires are appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance and will be assessed and considered for permanent tenure over time, based on performance. As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment. All applicants will be updated on the status of their applications within 4 weeks upon closing of the advertisement. #LI-VL1
