What you will be working on
- Ensure that the unit adheres to safety guidelines and policies whilst maintaining comprehensive oversight of all safety-related activities and procedures
- Highlight safety breaches and non-compliance of safety measures to Unit Commanders for immediate institution of corrective actions and disciplinary actions
- Maintain currency in personal knowledge of safety rules, regulations and standards to serve as an effective first-line safety supervisor in the unit
- Conduct regular safety inspections and assessments to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement
- Monitor compliance with safety protocols during training exercises and operational activities
- Develop and implement safety briefings and awareness programmes to enhance unit-wide safety culture
- Investigate safety incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures
Challenge(s)
- Introducing effective control measures to keep incidents in the unit to the minimum whilst maintaining operational effectiveness
- Reviewing safety procedures in training activities and continuously improving the system to reduce and prevent incidents without compromising training standards and operational readiness
What we are looking for
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related fields would be advantageous
- Experience in training and operations with demonstrated understanding of military or high-risk operational environments is advantageous
- Excellent communication skills with ability to engage effectively with personnel at all levels and convey safety requirements clearly
- Analytical mind with strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail in identifying safety risks and developing solutions
- Knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques
- Understanding of safety regulations, standards and best practices in military or industrial settings
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgements in safety-critical situations
- Strong leadership qualities with ability to influence safety culture and behaviour change across the unit
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with evolving safety standards and practices
