You will be responsible for managing safety matters in the unit and have an opportunity to contribute to the Artillery formation's project to introduce and operationalise the Army's Next-Generation Howitzer. What you will be working on
- Manage safety matters in the unit to ensure comprehensive safety oversight across all operational and training activities
- Ensure training is executed in adherence to safety policies whilst maintaining operational effectiveness and training standards
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise for the Safety domain, including Army's safety system and culture, and the policies and directives that govern local and overseas training as well as operations
- Contribute to developing safety regulations and operational procedures for Army's Next-Generation Howitzer to ensure that soldiers are able to train and operate the system safely and effectively
- Conduct safety assessments and risk evaluations for training exercises and operational activities
- Supervise safety protocols during regular training periods outfield and training activities commencing and ending at irregular hours
- Oversee the safe conduct of Artillery peacetime live firing exercises during overseas deployments
Challenge(s)
- Supporting a high tempo of training in the unit whilst maintaining rigorous safety standards and comprehensive oversight
- Travelling overseas for peacetime Artillery live firing exercises which could span up to three weeks and will be a regular feature in the unit workplan
What we are looking for
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with ability to engage effectively with personnel at all levels
- Willingness to work as part of a team with collaborative approach to safety management and problem-solving
- Proficiency in information technology systems and applications with at least intermediate level computer literacy and skills in Microsoft Office
- Organised and meticulous approach to work with strong attention to detail in safety documentation and procedures
- Self-motivated, adaptive and able to function independently in dynamic operational environments
- Constant desire to improve business processes, find creative ways to tackle problems, and instinct to care for soldiers and help them improve their experience, reduce fatigue, enhance sustainability, and execute jobs safely
- Prior experience and knowledge in operations, training, and/or safety and safety management is preferred
- Willingness to participate in regular training periods outfield and overseas travel for Artillery live firing exercises
- Flexibility to supervise training activities that commence and end at irregular hours
