What you will be working on
- Provide counselling/psychotherapy and rehabilitation services to MINDEF/SAF personnel to enhance their emotional well-being, psychological resilience, and performance at work and in training
- Work collaboratively with Commanders, Medical Officers, Para counsellors, Orientation Officers, and other professionals such as psychologists and psychiatrists in providing comprehensive care and support
- Anchor the 24/7 SAF Counselling Hotline as part of a team, providing critical support to personnel in crisis and their family members
- Serve as part of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team to support affected units and families in the aftermath of critical events, locally and overseas
- Undertake the role as a Caring Action in Responses to Emergencies (CARE) Officer to provide care support during national level incidents, including conducting psychological debriefings and supervising junior CARE officers
- Raise, train and sustain the large pool of SAF Paracounsellors to ensure they are ready to fulfil their frontline counselling support role
- Equip commanders and managers with early detection and intervention skills to help their service personnel manage life transitions and challenges
- Provide preventive publicity and education in stress management, substance abuse, and suicide prevention
- Organise well-being campaigns to promote mental health and resilience
Challenge(s)
- Engaging meaningfully with the changing youth landscape and increasing demands of the new generation, reflected in increased rates of service personnel presenting with mental health and psycho-social issues
- Providing holistic, timely, and quality mental health services while managing complex and potentially high-risk cases, including those with severe psycho-social problems, suicidal ideation, or addiction-related issues
What we are looking for
- Education in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in counselling
- Specialised training in cognitive behaviour therapy, choice theory & reality therapy, interpersonal therapy, motivational interviewing, and critical incident stress management is preferred
- Registered practitioner with the Singapore Association for Counselling, Singapore Association of Social Workers, Association of Professionals Specialising in Addiction Counselling, or Singapore Psychological Society
