Forensic Scientist, Analytical Toxicology Laboratory-Drug Abuse Testing
What the role is
What you will be working on
We are seeking passionate individuals to be part of a dynamic team that strives for continuous improvements and innovation to support forensic investigations in the area of forensic toxicology.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct and supervise the testing of drugs and metabolites in biological specimens.
- Interpret analytical findings and prepare reports for operational and court use.
- Provide expert testimony and technical consultation services to stakeholders.
- Support research, method development, validation, and implementation of new analytical workflows.
- Oversee the application and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
- Support quality assurance, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in innovative projects involving AI, automation and digitalization by developing digital tools and automation solutions to enhance laboratory workflows, data review and reporting efficiency.
- Work with laboratory and digital transformation teams to optimise LIMS workflows, data integrity, and instrument-to-system integration.
- Apply data analytics and computational approaches to identify trends, improve turnaround time, and support evidence-based decision making.
What we are looking for
Qualifications and Skills:
- Background in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Science or related fields
- Strong foundation in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry-based workflows.
- Experience or academic exposure in LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HRMS, or related analytical instrumentation.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Meticulous, attention to detail and ability to work within regulated, court-defensible laboratory environments
Preferred/Advantageous
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or other scripting/programming languages.
- Experience in data visualisation or dashboarding tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).
- Exposure to laboratory automation, robotics, workflow scripting, or robotic process automation (e.g. UiPath)
- Familiarity with statistical analysis or machine learning applications in chemistry.
- Experience in digitalisation projects, LIMS workflows, or system integration.
- Interest in applying AI tools to scientific workflows, data review, or knowledge management.
