What the role is

What you will be working on

The Legal Division is MHA’s legal advisor. It advises the Home Team, including its various departments (e.g., SPF, SCDF, SPS, ICA, CNB), in carrying out its public duties and functions lawfully and effectively. In so doing, the division supports the important policies and exciting operations of the Home Team. As a Legal Counsel, you will play an active role in legislative and policy projects, legal advisory work, the review of contracts, and legal work relating to criminal law detention. You will also be conducting training in the law for officers across the various Home Team departments. Key responsibilities: • Advising in MHA’s legislative and policy projects, including doing legal research, and advising on regulatory regimes and operations; • Providing timely and practical legal advice on various queries to the Home Team; • Reviewing contract documents for MHA to ensure that they are well-drafted and protect the interests of MHA; • Developing training materials on legal issues pertaining to MHA work and conduct legal training for officers across the Home Team; and • Working closely with officers doing policy and operations work in order to provide legal advice.

What we are looking for

• Tertiary education in Law • At least 3 years of legal work experience (advisory experience is preferred) • Well-versed in the law with advanced research skills • Strong analytical skills and the desire to work in an ops-centric environment • Good communication and people skills • Ability to work well in a team with non-legally trained people within MHA and other Home Team departments
