Scientist / Plant Science and Health (Contract)
What the role is
What you will be working on
Assist in planning and conducting field and laboratory-based plant disease surveillance, such as on Fulvifomes spp.
Media preparation and fungal culture
Assisting in performing molecular work associated with plant disease surveillance, such as DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing analysis
Method development/validation for LAMP (Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification) techniques in plant disease surveillance
Assist in data analysis and report writing
Any other duties as required to run a plant pathology laboratory
What we are looking for
• Area of study in life sciences, plant pathology, microbiology, molecular biology or related fields
• Comfortable in field and laboratory work
• Knowledge of general biology, plant pathology, microbiology or molecular biology and statistical analysis
• Good laboratory skills, particularly in molecular techniques (PCR, DNA extraction, sequencing)
• Self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision
• Positive attitude and able to thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment
• Possess Class 3 or 3A driving licence to facilitate field work in remote locations
