What the role is

You are expected to perform analytical work on the various research projects in Phytopathology.

What you will be working on

  • Assist in planning and conducting field and laboratory-based plant disease surveillance, such as on Fulvifomes spp.

  • Media preparation and fungal culture

  • Assisting in performing molecular work associated with plant disease surveillance, such as DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing analysis

  • Method development/validation for LAMP (Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification) techniques in plant disease surveillance

  • Assist in data analysis and report writing

  • Any other duties as required to run a plant pathology laboratory

What we are looking for

•  Area of study in life sciences, plant pathology, microbiology, molecular biology or related fields

•  Comfortable in field and laboratory work

•  Knowledge of general biology, plant pathology, microbiology or molecular biology and statistical analysis

•  Good laboratory skills, particularly in molecular techniques (PCR, DNA extraction, sequencing)

•  Self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision

•  Positive attitude and able to thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment

•  Possess Class 3 or 3A driving licence to facilitate field work in remote locations
