Description of Division: The Rehabilitation and Protection Group (RPG) undertakes the statutory functions in the rehabilitation of adult and youth offenders, and the protection of children, families and vulnerable adults (VAs). Our mission is to empower individuals and families to break cycles of abuse, neglect and offending. As part of the RPG family, Protective Services (PSV) is a statutory service and it leads in the policies and processes to safeguard the safety and well-being of individuals, families and vulnerable adults experiencing violence, abuse or neglect.

What you will be working on

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director/Senior Assistant Director leads teams of Protection Officers responsible for conducting statutory social investigation and implementing intervention to protect the safety and best interest of individuals, families, children and vulnerable adults (VAs) experiencing violence, abuse or neglect under the Children and Young Persons Act, Vulnerable Adults Act and Women’s Charter. The Senior Assistant Director / Assistant Director will be supporting the Deputy Director in the running of the operations section and reviewing operational policies and solutions to address various challenges. As a Senior Assistant Director / Assistant Director, you will • Guide supervisors and Protection Officers undertaking triage/investigation, safety planning, guide assessments to put in place appropriate intervention plans and right-siting of referrals or cases to work with families and professionals to ensure continued safety and well-being of children, VAs experiencing abuse, neglect or self-neglect, and egregious cases of Family Violence with imminent danger. • Lead the team in fronting complex and challenging client situations, including cases involving high conflict or resistance, by modeling effective engagement strategies, building trust, and ensuring professional standards are upheld. You will provide guidance and support to officers in managing these interactions, fostering resilience, and strengthening the team’s capability to handle difficult client dynamics constructively. • Oversee day to day operations of the section which includes regular reviews of cases, operational processes • Support and contribute to the development, implementation, and reviews of operational policies and processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Ops’s function; and • Work closely with the public and people sectors to offer statutory guidance, care and protection for children who have been abused or neglected, and VAs experiencing abuse, neglect or self-neglect.

What we are looking for

Requirements • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline; • At least 8 years of leadership/supervisory experience; • Experience in working with vulnerable children and families or with investigative experience in social service settings; • Demonstrate personal integrity and accountability; • Possesses leadership qualities and skills to build strong teams; • Possesses strategic and systems thinking; • High level of emotional resilience; • Able to work calmly and apply empathetic listening and coaching in highly stressful situations and environment; • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
