What the role is

Design & Planning Lab (DPLab) is a group within URA driving URA’s Urban Planning & Design Technology Centre of Excellence (URBEX) efforts. Our teams with capabilities in software development, geospatial analytics, urban design modelling & simulation, data science, AI / ML, data engineering, data governance and management, work closely with planners, architects, policy makers across various agencies, as well as external partners, to generate insights and develop tools and solutions to tackle Singapore's urban planning challenges. The Data Engineering (DE) Team in the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) is responsible for applying advanced methods in data engineering to enhance various aspects of urban planning and development. The team comprises data engineers, analysts, cloud engineer, and planners who work together to provide innovative solutions to complex urban challenges. Join our team to contribute to the Planning Sectoral Data Hub (PSDH), a key data platform supporting diverse planning sectors. This role offers an exciting, dynamic, and enriching experience where you’ll engage with a variety of users and stakeholders to enhance the capabilities and reliability of PSDH. You will play a critical role in strengthening the data pipeline and implementing automated regression testing strategies, ensuring data integrity, reliability, and accuracy. Your work will be instrumental in advancing the PSDH’s robustness, supporting strategic planning efforts with dependable data insights.

What you will be working on

Data Platform Enhancement for PSDH 1. Data Pipelines – Contribute to improving reliability, scalability, and efficiency of data workflows, including data ingestion, transformation, and sharing. 2. Data Visualisation & Reporting – Assist in designing and developing interfaces to support data discovery, interaction, and performance reporting. 3. Monitoring & Governance – Assist in strengthening platform security, monitoring, and compliance practices. 4. Automation & Testing – Assist with implementing automation for workflows, testing, and monitoring to reduce manual effort and improve resilience. 5. Documentation & Content Creation – Develop user guides, tutorials, and onboarding materials to improve usability. Learning Outcomes • Gain hands-on experience in enhancing a data platform, including improving data pipelines, data access, and reporting capabilities. • Build practical skills in cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Azure) across data engineering, visualisation, and automation. • Develop an understanding of platform security, monitoring, and governance practices within a production data environment. • Apply problem-solving skills to identify improvement opportunities and contribute to platform enhancements and prioritised initiatives. • Strengthen communication and collaboration skills through working with cross-functional teams and delivering clear documentation, guides, and presentations.

What we are looking for

• Internship Period: Aug - Dec 2026. Full-time internship preferred. Note: To facilitate the hiring process, please state your availability (full-time/part-time), including specific start and end date in your resume or application form. • Undergraduate / Postgraduate students pursuing Computer Science / Information Technology, or relevant studies • Familiarity with SQL, Python, Git • Knowledge in Azure Cloud (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks) is an added advantage • Experience in developing user-facing applications (e.g. dashboards) is an added advantage
