What you will be working on
- Maintain unit safety policy, training safety regulation, unit safety standing operating procedures and instructions, and disseminate these regularly to all personnel
- Enforce adherence and compliance to safety guidelines and policies, and highlight any breaches for corrective action
- Conduct daily inspections to assess safety compliance, deter non-compliance, and advise on safety initiatives and good practices
- Be present at all high-risk activities
- Plan and forecast the unit safety workplan annually and conduct unit safety conferences
- Conduct regular reviews of the unit safety policy and safety standing orders to ensure currency and relevance
- Enforce the conduct of monthly unit safety workshops and maintain personal currency of safety rules, regulations, and standards
Challenge(s)
- Developing a deep understanding of the Army's Safety System and Culture, policies, and directives that guide local and overseas training
- Juggling competing training demands across five companies in the battalion to ensure training is conducted in adherence to safe policies
- Implementing solutions and control measures to prevent CAT 1 incidents in the unit
- Applying critical thinking to continuously improve safety procedures and reduce incidents without compromising training standards
- Communicating policies and implementations clearly and effectively to all stakeholders
What we are looking for
- At least 5 years of related experience, preferably in supervising high-risk training activities
- Experience in the conduct and support of safety audits and internal audits
- Ability to deliver safety education including induction programmes, case studies, and hazard reporting
- Strong communication skills to influence safety culture
- Analytical mindset for incident trend analysis and prevention action implementation
- High professional integrity and vigilance
- Organisational capability to manage safety workplans and maintain safety documents
- Ability to provide safety coverage for high-risk outfield and live firing activities, including weekends
