What the role is

The role will require engagements with domestic and international standards-setting bodies and regulators to meet market needs for globally consistent and comparable sustainability disclosures and understand their regulatory approaches as they evolve, as well as to support effective implementation of MAS’ CIS regulatory regime.

What you will be working on

The candidate will join a team responsible for:

  • Regulation of sustainability disclosures by securities issuers and efforts to build up the broader sustainability reporting and assurance ecosystem, including that for ESG Rating and Data Providers and ESG funds; and

  • Regulation of offers of units in collective investment schemes (CIS), including real estate investment trusts (REITs), exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and unit trusts.

Key areas of work include:

  • Sustainability disclosure implementation and assurance – for listed companies and retail investment products, and contributing to global, regional and domestic efforts in standard-setting and development of best practices.

  • Other sustainability-related issues in the securities regulation space – these include guidelines, industry codes or frameworks, for instance the Code of Conduct for ESG Rating and Data Providers.

  • Collective investment schemes (CIS) regulation – administration of rules governing fund offers under the Securities and Futures Act and the Code on Collective Investment Schemes.

The role will require engagements with domestic and international standards-setting bodies and regulators to meet market needs for globally consistent and comparable sustainability disclosures and understand their regulatory approaches as they evolve, as well as to support effective implementation of MAS’ CIS regulatory regime.

What we are looking for

  • Deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience with corporate financial reporting and/or sustainability reporting, including integration of sustainability-related risks and opportunities into financial decision-making and reporting and sustainability disclosure standards or frameworks (e.g. IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, Climate Bonds Initiative and GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards).

  • Accounting degree with accounting / audit work experience preferred.

  • Good understanding of sustainability-related matters with nexus to sustainability reporting and securities regulation (e.g. sustainability issues and value creation in the real economy, industry-specific materiality considerations, ESG reporting metrics and taxonomies).

  • Strong strategic thinking, data analysis and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to positively influence internal and external stakeholders and contribute to internal capacity building.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to handle organisation-wide projects involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Specialised certification or training in ESG or related fields can be considered.
