What the role is

Intern, DAT

Through this hands-on experience, interns will gain practical exposure to how data enables AI solutions in a government environment. You will work with cross functional teams to support data preparation, AI solution enablement, and coordination across AI initiatives, contributing to SLA’s and Whole of Government digital and AI transformation efforts.

What you will be working on

Business Understanding & AI Enablement

Support engagement with stakeholders to understand business and operational needs. Assist in translating business problems into AI use cases and data requirements. Document problem statements, assumptions, constraints, and intended outcomes.

Data Preparation & AI Support

Prepare, clean, and organise datasets for use in AI systems and workflows. Support data validation, quality checks, and issue identification. Assist in testing AI systems and services using prepared datasets. Document data-related considerations to support governance and auditability.

AI Engineering & Platform Support

Support AI tools, platforms, and cloud environments used for experimentation and deployment. Work with data pipelines and processes supporting AI development and operations. Assist in testing AI services, APIs, and system integrations.

Project Coordination & Documentation

Support tracking of tasks, deliverables, and milestones across AI initiatives. Coordinate inputs across data, engineering, and domain teams. Prepare documentation, summaries, and materials for project discussions and updates.

What we are looking for

  • Student pursuing studies in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related fields.

  • Comfortable working with Python and datasets

  • Interest in applying data and AI to real world business and public sector problems

  • Understanding of how data quality and readiness impact AI outcomes

  • Ability to communicate clearly and document work in a structured manner

  • Curious, proactive, and willing to engage with both technical and business teams

  • Responsible and mindful of data security, governance, and privacy considerations

  • Previous coursework, projects, or internships involving data, AI, or digital solutions

  • Adaptable and open to working across multiple workstreams

  • Positive mindset and willing to learn about complex organisational challenges

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn

  • Responsible and proactive

  • Able to commit full time from June 2026 to September 2026 / July 2026 to October 2026 / July 2026 to December 2026 for at least 3 to 6 months.
