What the role is
Producer Responsibility Department (PRD) oversees the development, administration and regulation of EPR schemes for waste streams such as e-waste and beverage containers, as well as the Disposable Carrier Bag Charge and Mandatory Packaging Reporting schemes. It is responsible for the licensing of the Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operator and the regulation of recycling facilities under the EPR schemes. It is also responsible for the audit and verification of data submitted under the EPR schemes to ensure stakeholder confidence and integrity of the system.
What you will be working on
You will be part of a dynamic team that is involved in the development and implementation of waste management strategies and initiatives, including those under the Zero Waste Masterplan. You will be working in a fast-paced environment and required to take on a regulatory role to ensure industry and stakeholders’ compliance to the Resource Sustainability Act, in particular on packaging and plastic waste management. You will be responsible for the following:
Review global and local landscapes for sustainable waste management strategies and technologies
Develop and implement plans for key waste streams (i.e. packaging waste)
Facilitate and organise stakeholder discussions, engagements and consultations for packaging
Work with other departments/agencies to develop and build up capabilities for the plastics recycling industry
Ensuring compliance with Mandatory Packaging Reporting and Disposable Carrier Bag Charge schemes
Conduct on-site audits and inspection annually for selected premises and producers
Analysis of information from submitted reports
Assist in the development, maintenance and improvement of the online reporting systems, including project coordination work with the system vendor
Handling feedback and enquiries to ensure timely provision of information, clarification or advice
Maintaining database and records
Other duties as assigned including development of resources for the industry
What we are looking for
The job might be for you if you possess the following qualities:
Degree in Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical/Environmental Engineering or other relevant fields of study
Passion for environmental protection and adept at working with corporate and public stakeholders
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Sustainability, Environmental, and/or Waste Management
Good organisation and project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders at the same time
Outgoing and pleasant personality; mature, independent and resourceful; highly self-motivated; patient and resilient; adaptable to diverse work scopes
Good team player, strong interpersonal communication, writing and analytical skills
Detail-oriented with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), data analytics, and statistics.
Able to work after-office hours and weekends, if required
